Staff Appreciation Breakfast
In case you weren’t aware, Wednesday, April 25, 2012, is considered Staff Appreciation Day or Administrative Professionals Day. A day where companies and bosses can celebrate their staff and employees. Some companies, like mine, have taken the idea of Staff Appreciation Day even further and extended it into Staff Appreciation Week.
When we arrived into the office on Monday morning, everyone had a flyer in their mailbox with a list of activities for Staff Appreciation Week. And it started off with a bang! Breakfast Monday morning. Monday’s are always a tough day for employees who have a long week of work to look forward to, but if you need to start a new work week, what better way to do it than to have a nice, hearty breakfast on the company!
Although there seems to be no recorded origin regarding Staff Appreciation Day, and it is not considered an official holiday, it is widely believed that the beginnings of this celebration of employees was created to counterbalance National Boss’s Day which is officially celebrated every October 16th. National Boss’s Day was created in 1958 when Patricia Bays Haroski registered the day with the U.S. National Chamber of Commerce. In response to the popularity of National Boss’s Day, Employee Appreciation Day was created as a way for employers to say thank you to the staff that work for them. Starting a celebration of Staff Appreciation Week by winning over our stomachs through breakfast was a great start.
As soon as we walked into our multipurpose room, there was a large set up of breakfast goodies for everyone to feast on. Tables and tables piled high with fresh fruits and pastries and bagels. I don’t think there was a single person who didn’t have a smile on their face when they saw the amount of food awaiting us. Isn’t there the saying that the easiest way into someone’s heart is through their stomach?
There was tray after tray of fresh fruit, which included sliced strawberries, watermelon, pineapple, cantaloupe and honeydew. A sweet, and healthy start to breakfast.
Next, there were trays of sliced bagels; everything from plain bagels, to onion, to sesame to cinnamon raison to poppy-seed and more that I can’t even name. It of course was served alongside cream cheese, butter and various jams.
If bagels aren’t your thing, then there were trays of muffins all of all kinds: chocolate chip, chocolate chocolate chip, blueberry, poppy seed, banana nut and much more. Take your pick, or take more than one!
And finally, there were trays of various pastries and danishes with raspberry filling, blueberry filling, and lemon filling among others! It was a feast for the eyes.
Of course, we also had orange juice, milk, coffee and tea to help wash down all of our goodies. There wasn’t a single hungry person in the office! Of course, now none of us can wait to see what the rest of Staff Appreciation Week has in store for us!
